Selecting Your Pickleball Paddle: Comparing Paddle Shapes

  • March 31, 2025
pickleball paddle

With an abundance of companies and technologies providing pickleball paddle options, there are a number of options to choose from. Paddles typically break down into two shapes: longer and narrow, and shorter and wider, which are a lot more forgiving. There is a larger sweet spot, so it can be a better choice for beginner players.

Longer, narrow paddles provide more reach, and can provide more leverage because there’s more weight away from the hands, giving the player more power.

Courtside Sports’ team recommends something like the narrow paddle shape for people who have played racquet sports in the past, and something like the wider paddle for players who iare getting into the sport and want a little bit more forgiveness out of their paddle.

The team notes that it is always a personal preference thing, and recommend trying out a couple different shapes just to see which paddle shape is best for you.
