Vancouver Island Pickleball acquires assets to Vancouver Island Pickleball Association

March 2, 2025 (Vancouver Island, BC) – Vancouver Island Pickleball, powered by Courtside Sports, has received the transfer of assets of Vancouver Island Pickleball Association (VIPA) from founder and longtime operator, Ken Holman. VIPA was founded in 2013, encouraging the growth of pickleball on Vancouver Island prior to the sport’s massive explosion in popularity.

Included in the transfer is the Association’s Pickleball Canada website and membership, which allows players to register with the National Pickleball Organization and Pickleball BC without committing to a specific club. This aspect of VIPA will continue to remain active for those electing to compete in sanctioned tournaments independently.

VIPA founder Holman played a pivotal role in pickleball’s Island growth, and ran—along with the help from many others—the Vancouver Island Pickleball Championships, for a number of years.

“I was fortunate to be living close to a brand new six-court, dedicated pickleball facility,” recalled Holman. “The first of its kind on the Island, at Fuller Lake. The perfect venue for the Championships…It was successful thanks to the support from the then burgeoning pickleball community.”

Holman’s focus in the sport is now primarily focused on providing lessons to the mid-Island community, a contributing factor in his decision to pass on VIPA’s assets.

“I am proud of VIPA’s achievements in encouraging the growth of pickleball on the Island,” added Holman. “I am delighted to see the reins picked up by James Nielsen and Vancouver Island Pickleball, and I am delighted to have the opportunity to transfer the assets of VIPA to him.

“He has developed a wonderful resource with his new website. With the demographics of pickleball moving to a younger age I think the future for this sport is looking bright.”
