Selecting a Pickleball Shoe: Indoor versus Outdoor

  • April 7, 2025
pickleball shoes 2

A key difference between an indoor pickleball shoe and an outdoor shoe is that indoor shoes—a lot of the time—have a much softer outsole, which means they are going to stick a lot better on something like a hardwood floor.

The much harder, rubberized material on the outsole of an outdoor shoe is much better on kind of an asphalt surface, or concrete. The outsole will be more durable, but it’s not going to stick as well on a hardwood floor.

Courtside Sports recommends using court shoes as opposed to a runner, due to the lateral support. These shoes are very, very stiff when you’re trying to twist them. Something like a runner twists very, very easily. Court shoes are a lot stiffer, laterally. That’s the main thing that you’re getting out of them in both an outdoor court shoe and an indoor court shoe.
