North Cowichan Pickleball Club celebrates first-ever Fall Ball tournament

  • September 30, 2025
FallBall

The North Cowichan Pickleball Club held its 1st Fall Ball Pickleball Tournament, September 27–28, 2025, at the Cowichan Sportsplex in Duncan. The event welcomed an impressive 130 players from across the Cowichan Valley and Island, with a portion of the proceeds being donated back to the Sportsplex. Tournament Directors Pat Poczobut and Kelsy Cahill facilitated the event, which exceeded expectations in both turnout and level of play.

What began as a small idea to gain tournament-organizing experience quickly grew into a large and energetic gathering, bringing together both familiar faces and new friends. Following the weekend, Poczobut and Cahill extended their heartfelt gratitude to every player who joined the competition. The pair also extended their gratitude to the many volunteers who made The Fall Ball possible:

  • Andre St. Cyr, Jill Coster, Alan Sanders, Denise Myhre, and Clare Mackinnon — for staying until midnight Friday to tape lines.
  • Linda Kailly and Denise Aucoin — for their tireless work all weekend with set-up, take-down, and creating a warm and welcoming presence at the registration desk.
  • Keith Kailly, Glenn Atkins, and Fredericka Staiger — for their help with food and drinks.
  • Gary Ecklin (Go West Physiotherapy) and Hudson Carruthers — for providing first aid expertise.
  • Corrine Hunt — for stepping in early on Sunday before her own event to lend a hand wherever needed.
  • Leah Gordon — for staying late Saturday to help troubleshoot tournament software and sharing valuable expertise.
  • Elise Feltrin, Anita Sundberg, Brandy Lutters, and Hudson Carruthers — as court ushers who kept matches organized and running smoothly.
  • Mark Baknes, Linda & Keith Kailly, Jill Coster & Alan Sanders, Anita Sundberg & Rodney Bourque, and Noah Charles — for generously lending nets at the last minute.
