Gold Rush in Kamloops for Vancouver Island Pickleball Players

June 2, 2026

Several Vancouver Island athletes delivered strong performances at the Kamloops Open, held at Riverside Park in Kamloops, May 29-31. The event attracted more than 400 competitors from across Western Canada.

Emma Knapp captured gold in the Women’s 4.0 Singles division, while Grace Thomas claimed gold in Women’s 5.0 Singles competition. Thomas added a second medal to her weekend, (teaming with Saskatchewan’s Sylvia Xu) to earn silver in Women’s Doubles 5.0.

Tessa Graham captured gold in Women’s 3.0 Singles 60+, (partnering with North Vancouver’s Joanne Miller) to secure another gold medal in Women’s Doubles 3.5 (50-57).

On the men’s side, Gerry Wong captured gold in Men’s 4.5 Singles, adding another championship performance for Vancouver Island athletes.

The Island’s strong showing continued throughout the tournament, with Roy Wheeldon capturing gold in Men’s Singles 4.0 (48+) and the duo of Rosy and Denise Wheeldon earning gold in Mixed Doubles 4.5 (50+).

Congratulations to all athletes who represented the Island in Kamloops!
