The Canadian National Pickleball League (CNPL) wrapped up its first event of year, May 17-18 at Smash Pickleball in London, Ont. Eight pickleball clubs came together to compete in the Central Split, featuring Canada’s top players and rising stars.

Vancouver Island Pickleball, powered by Courtside Sports, chatted with Vancouver Island pro Isabelle Tang about the experience with her Northern Lights team.

How was the first weekend of competition?

The first event in London, Ontario was an incredible experience!

I finally had the chance to meet my teammates (Joel, Lucas, Graham, Danielle, Marie Christine and Tiffany) and the team owners (Michael and Jason) in person. Everyone was super welcoming, talented, and brought great energy—it was all good vibes!

Can you talk about your overall experience last weekend?

It was a very positive and memorable experience. Honestly, it felt like a dream come true to be out there representing the Northern Lights.

Highlights from the weekend?

I loved the competition—especially making strong plays and winning key rallies. That adrenaline rush is hard to beat! I was so pumped!

What are you looking forward to for the rest of the season?

I’m excited to keep building chemistry with my teammates, push myself in training, and continue improving together as a unit. The ultimate goal is to bring home the championship!
