Salaried employees expect predictable paycheques. Retirees should too. Coordinate CPP, OAS, any pension benefit, and RRIF withdrawals with your TFSA/corporate accounts so court fees, travel, and new paddles are covered.

What is a financial advisor?

Start with your guaranteed amounts (CPP, OAS, pension). Add your RRIF minimum, if applicable. Compare that total to your typical monthly spending. Is there a gap?
Fill the gap efficiently to keep taxes lower and your money lasting longer. Tactics may include pension income splitting with a spouse, predictable and regular RRIF withdrawals to protect OAS, and topping up your TFSA annually.
Retiring early? Choosing when to take your CPP, OAS, and smoothing your income with RRSP withdrawals can be a big opportunity to minimize taxation over retirement.

Everyone’s mix is different. Make sure your accountant and your advisor are working together to craft a personalized plan that works for your situation.
