Customizing Your Pickleball Paddle with Weighted Tape

  • April 15, 2025
pickleball paddle weighted tape

You may have found the right paddle, but want more stability or a little bit more power. Lead tape or tungsten strips can provide this. Lead tape has an adhesive backing on it, so it can be applied straight onto the paddle.

The team at Courtside Sports recommends adding lead or tungsten tape on the sides of the paddle, ensuring the same amount of weight on each side of the paddle for balance. The addition of lead or tungsten strips increases the stability of the paddle when added to the spaces “three” and “nine.” If you’re making contact with a pickleball on the side of the paddle, there will be less spin in the hand.

Another option is adding weight to the top of the paddle. This will increase the power and makes the paddle more head heavy. It does increase the swing weight as well, so it’s a little bit more pressure on the user’s arm.

Courtside also recommends adding an edge tape that goes on the paddle edge, especially if the paddle doesn’t have an edge guard (like the one featured in the video). Applying edge tape adds a layer of protection for players, as well as protecting the paddle from scrapes resulting from contact with the court—overall an edge tape will increase the lifespan of the paddle!
