Victoria, BC – The Victoria Regional Pickleball Association (VRPA) is pleased to announce the 2nd Annual Berwick/UVIC Pickleball Tournament, taking place on Saturday, April 12, 2025 at the University of Victoria’s CARSA Building. This all-women’s tournament—organized by women, for women—will welcome 235 participants across a full spectrum of skill levels, from beginners to the highly competitive Open (4.5+) division.
After an incredible first year, this event continues to focus on encouraging and supporting beginner and intermediate women to gain tournament experience in a positive and welcoming environment. This year’s expansion to include higher-level divisions reflects the growing strength and enthusiasm of the local women’s pickleball community.
“With competitors ranging in age from 15 to 78, this tournament has such a special energy – a celebration of athleticism, empowerment, and the growing pickleball community,” says Tournament Director Leah Gordon. “We have almost doubled in size since last year’s event; it’s great to see women of all ages and abilities competing, learning, and supporting each other.”
Thanks to the significant support of Berwick Retirement Communities and the University of Victoria as well as new sponsor Amplifon Hearing Care Experts. Thanks also to returning sponsor Courtside Sports and new sponsor Victoria Pickleball Centre and other sponsors, this year’s event promises to be bigger and better than ever.
“With this being our second year for this event, we are encouraged to see the number of women participating in this year’s event,” said Tessa Graham, Vice President VRPA and Head Referee. “Our association has jumped leaps and bounds in membership from just a couple of 100 members two years ago, to close to 1,000 this year.”
Hosted by the Victoria Regional Pickleball Association, the tournament aligns with the organization’s mission: To grow the game of Pickleball in the Greater Victoria Region for all ages, levels, and abilities by promoting:
- Fun, competitive and recreational play for all skill levels
- Ongoing skill development and mentoring programs
- Positive relationships with municipalities to support the development of dedicated indoor and outdoor pickleball courts
Spectators are welcome to attend and cheer on the athletes. Competition begins at 8:30 a.m. until 5 pm.
